A partner with Roland Stock (formerly Roland & Schlegel), John E. Muir is a seasoned trial attorney whose capabilities span a wide range of civil litigation including, but not limited to, condemnation law, medical malpractice defense and municipal law. Mr. Muir previously served as a Senior Trial Attorney with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office and is thus an able criminal defense attorney as well. He has served as lead counsel in more than 100 jury trials and arbitration hearings.

Numerous municipalities and school districts throughout Berks County have tapped Mr. Muir to serve as special counsel in litigation and condemnation matters. Currently, he is the Solicitor to the Womelsdorf Sewer Authority, the Oley Township Municipal Authority and the Western Berks Police Department. As a trial lawyer with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Muir handled the first criminal prosecution and stalking jury trial in Pennsylvania and at the time was the youngest Assistant District Attorney on the office’s murder trial rotation. 

In addition to maintaining a busy and diverse legal practice, Mr. Muir is an active member of numerous professional and community organizations. He chairs the Berks County Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section and previously chaired the Bar Association’s Municipal Law Section. He is also a frequent lecturer for the Bar Association, having presented on topics such as civil trial management, eminent domain and local court rules. He was president of the Endlich Law Club from 2008 through 2009, and an officer of that organization from 2005 through 2008. Mr. Muir was the 2009 recipient of the Berks County Bar Association President’s Award. He has also been honored for his dedication to the YMCA of Reading & Berks County, for which he recently served as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2008 through 2010.

A resident of Wernersville, PA, Mr. Muir is Chairman of the Western Berks Fire Department Board of Trustees and a member of the Spring Township Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Service Committee. He previously assisted numerous Berks County fire companies in a merger and consolidation process. He is also a founding member of the Justice William Strong American Inns of Court and a member of the St. Thomas More Society.

Mr. Muir is licensed to practice throughout Pennsylvania, the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law in 1993 and holds a B.S. in Political Science from Albright College.
